Because we had them completely to ourselves!!! I have nothing against Ephesus, (I love it there!) but there’s no denying it’s BUSY! The crowds can be suffocating at times. Miletus was the complete opposite. You felt the desolation. There was nobody there.

We visited for about 2 hours, and saw roughly 15-20 others. The site was so big, that you were almost guaranteed not to run into other people other than at the amphitheatre, which was the focal point of the site. It made exploring the ruins feel refreshingly authentic and all the more exhilarating. You really felt like you had the run of the place; there was no waiting in lines, no trying to take pictures around throngs of people, and no security guards looking over your shoulder every two minutes. You could go where you wanted, and do what you wanted. It was fantastic! In my experiences, this is incredibly rare in Europe.
