I find if you walk around Europe enough you tend to get a little desensitized to all of the old buildings and statues… Ralph calls it beauty fatigue. Every town you visit is just too charming, too cute, too rustic.. and I have to say I’ve been starting to feel this a little too. “Oh look, another cathedral…” It sounds terrible, but I think too much of a good thing will do that to you.

Florence however, revitalized me. It’s honestly just on a different level than the rest of Europe. The buildings and streets are STUNNING! The cathedrals are unlike anything I’ve seen so far; their level of ornate detail is… staggering. After seeing the rather spartan, utilitarian looking Mosques of Turkey, it’s great to see that epic European flair again.

There’s also a buzz in the streets and that intangible energy that gives a city that ‘it’ factor. Having been to many, many cities over the years, not all of them have this.

Suffice to say, I’ve really enjoyed Florence. It’s like walking through a modern day city stuck in the renaissance. They also have really good gelato. :)
